Group clash leaves eight men injured in Ghotki

SUKKUR: A clash over a land dispute between two tribal communities in Bhooral Pitafi village near Khanpur Mahar town of Ghotki district left eight people injured on Monday.

Two large groups of the Pitafi and Gabol communities wielding clubs and hatchets came face to face in their long-running row over piece of land and attacked each other, the area police said.

Eight of them, including Mir Ahmed Gabol, Irshad Gabol, Mohammed Ali, Niaz Ali, Mohammed Hassan Gabol and Zulfiqar Pitafi were admitted to Khanpur Mahar and Ghotki hospitals for treatment, they said.

Later, Khanpur Mahar police carried out raids at some places in the village and took away four suspects belonging to the Pitafi community but were yet to register an FIR of the clash.

Fire hits settlement

Several thatched houses in a Hindu settlement near City Point Bypass along Dady Canal embankment caught fire on Monday.

Gagan Bagri, Ramesh Bagri and Teelat Bagri and others said that they lost all their belongings which were reduced to ashes. They said residents of the settlement extinguished the fire as the fire brigade did not came to their rescue despite repeated distress calls made by them.

Body lying unattended

Police and divers appeared not ready to fish out a the body of a man that had been sticking to the Gate No. 53 of Sukkur barrage for two days.

Some people who spotted the body alerted the area police and a police team did visit the spot but left the area arguing that fishing out a body was not their job. When urged to arrange for some divers, the policemen said they (divers) were not attending to their duties because they had not been receiving their salaries for many months.
