‘Only 550 of 1,957 QMC workers perform duty’

QUETTA: Mayor of Quetta Metropolitan Corporation (QMC) Dr Kalimullah disclosed on Thursday that QMC’s only 550 employees, out of 1,957 had been performing their duties.

During a meeting with the participants of National Institute of Management course, who called on him here, Mr Kalimullah said: “Metropolitan Corporation Quetta has a total 1,957 employees, out of which only 550 are working.”

The mayor said he was working to evolve a comprehensive plan to cope with the situation which had affected the working of QMC.

Former ministers for local governments recruited hundreds of employees to low category posts on political considerations. “Even party workers were recruited on sweeper’s posts and now they are not performing their duties.”

The mayor informed the participants of the NIM course that after the devastating earthquake of 1935, Quetta was re-planned for a population of 30,000 people which now had shot up to three million.

“Quetta has become a city of problems because of bad governance by previous governments who neglected it,” he said, adding that work had been taken in hand to improve the situation.

He said councillors had been empowered to play their role in curbing street crime.
