RAWALPINDI: Leaking pipes cause water shortage, damage roads

RAWALPINDI, Dec 23: The Rawalpindi cantonment is linked to a large Military Engineering Services (MES) network of pipelines supplying water to its consumers. A number of these pipelines are leaking and leading not only to water shortage in various localities but also broken roads.

The apathy of MES authority to the leaking pipelines in different areas has resulted in water shortage.

The residents said their complaints to the concerned go unattended. A leaking pipeline on Tufail Road is not only wasting water but also breaking up the road.

Calls to the cantonment officials were ignored with the plea that the these pipelines are in the jurisdiction of the MES and they should be asked to carry out the task.

Similarly pipelines are reported to be leaking at Unique, Lalkurti roads near Fauji Foun-dation school in New Lalazar.

The people decried the apathy of MES staff who are not bothered to plug the leaking pipelines, a clerk at the complaint centre said the pipeline is quite old and needs replacement and these leakage’s can hardly be repaired.

The residents have called on the officials to remedy the situation at the earliest to save water and roads which hardly get repaired.—APP
