Shaharyar meets SL cricket officials
LAHORE: Sri Lanka Cricket interim-committee chief Sidath Wettimuny and a member of that committee Prasanna Jayawardene held a meeting with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar M. Khan over lunch at the Gaddafi Stadium here on Saturday.
The two-member delegation of Sri Lanka Cricket is on Pakistan tour on the invitation of the PCB to watch the third and final One-day International between Pakistan and Zimbabwe to be held on Sunday.
During the visit, the Sri Lankan delegation is personally watching the security arrangements made for the Zimbabwe team. It will help Sri Lanka to take a decision to tour Pakistan in future.
Besides the PCB chairman, chairman of Governor Board’s Executive Committee Najam Sethi and International Cricket Director Zakir Khan were present at the meeting.
If the Sri Lankan delegation finds security arrangements satisfactory, they may send their national team to Pakistan most probably next year, since there is little room for the PCB to host them this year.
It is learnt that the PCB may ask Sri Lanka to tour Pakistan in December if India-Pakistan series could not be held.
The BCCI is yet to seek approval from its government for the series besides settling the issue of broadcaster with the Pakistan Cricket Board. The series will probably be held in the UAE.
In 2009, same situation was raised when India had refused to tour Pakistan and the PCB had to invite Sri Lanka.
It was the same tour when the Sri Lankan team was attacked.
