Two 'would-be suicide bombers' killed in Sargodha

SARGODHA: Two suspected would-be suicide bombers were killed when their jackets exploded in Sargodha on Saturday, police sources said.

The two were on Sargodha’s University Road when their jackets exploded, killing them both.

Sources told DawnNews that the would-be bombers' jackets exploded apparently during a fight on Khayam Chowk. Meanwhile, eyewitnesses said the blasts occurred when the bombers were putting their jackets on.

Subsequently, police arrived at the scene and took a suspect into custody. Police also cordoned off the area and an investigation into the incident is under way.

The bustling vicinity has a number of petrol pumps, educational institutions, a railway station, an anti-terrorist court and the offices of the District Police Officer (DPO), the District Coordination Officer (DCO) as well as the Regional Police Officer (RPO).

The bodies of the would-be bombers were being shifted to Combined Military Hospital Sargodha to carry out a DNA test to determine their identity.
