‘Galleria mellonella’

THIS refers to the letter ‘Galleria mellonella’ (June 17). Galleria mellonella is not a virus. Rather it is the biological name of wax moth or honey comb moth.

It never infects human beings, let alone claiming lives in Karachi. However, its larva has been used in the laboratory to study different bacteria which are harmful to humans.

The writer has mixed up the information which is totally misleading. Kindly note, there is no virus of this name and no infection in humans.
