Student tortured by cleric

SAHIWAL: A 10-year-old seminary student was allegedly tortured by his teacher on Sunday at Noorpur village in Pakpattan.

The boy was shifted to Malikan Rural Health Centre for treatment.

Reports said Rozi Khan got his son Tayyab admitted to a seminary “Jamia Irshadul Quran” located at Sandey Khan Road. The boy was learning the Holy Quran by heart.

Rozi Khan said on Sunday (weekly off) two of Tayyab’s class fellows came and said the cleric had called his son. He said he came to know that Tayyab’s teacher had severely beaten him for refusing to work as a labourer in the construction of the mosque.

“I rushed to the seminary and found my son beaten with sticks. Tayyab fainted due to torture and I shifted him to the rural health centre,” he said.

The health centre dispenser said the boy had severe stick torture marks on his back.

Rozi Khan has appealed to the authorities concerned to take action against the cleric.
