SWABI: Burnt electricity transformers in various villages here have left the residents without power supply for the last three to four days.

The affected people said that no one turned up to repair them despite repeated contacts with the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) officials and MPAs from the relevant constituencies.

They said that it was very difficult to pass the day without electricity in Ramazan and sleep at night due to mosquitoes. “We have suffered a lot throughout the hot day and night,” said Rohal Amin of Topi city.

Residents urge Pesco to restore power supply

Consumers in Topi city’s Zako area said that their 50 KV transformer had burnt due to overload on Sunday and soon after that they asked the Pesco staff and politicians for its repair. The transformer again developed fault on Monday morning soon after its installation.

“We are still without power and it is not clear the transformer will be repaired,” said Ziyad Khan, one of the consumers.

Similarly, a 100 KV transformer was also lying faulty at Batakara road area in Topi city. The traders demanded that the transformer should be repaired and power supply restored as soon as possible.

Consumers in congested Shewa village have also been waiting for repair of their 50 KV transformer for the last two days. Similar reports have also been received from Dagai and Saleem Khan areas.

When contacted, a Pesco official said that they had to take the faulty transformer to the Nowshera reclamation centre for repair and the people should wait for their turn.

ROAD ACCIDENT: Three persons of a family were killed and two others injured in an accident on Mardan-Swabi road here on Wednesday night.

Police said that Adnan and his family members were going to his hometown Yar Hussian in their car when it collided with another vehicle near Kalo Khan. As a result, Adnan, his daughter and sister were killed on the spot, while his wife and another sister suffered critical wounds and were taken to the district headquarter hospital Swabi.

FOOD PACKAGES: Khidmat-i-Mazooran Tanzeem distributed food packages among the disabled people at its office here on Wednesday. The commodities were provided by Ummah Welfare Trust in Nowshera.

“We also want to celebrate the coming festival of Eid like other people, but it would be difficult without the help of dedicated organisations and philanthropists,” said Gul Nabi Khan, a disabled person belonging to Maneri Bala.

Mohammad Rizwan, a member of the trust, said that the objective of the programme was to provide people with disability and their families with the required commodities ahead of Eidul Fitr.
