One executed in Jhang jail
JHANG: A convict was hanged on Wednesday in the District Jail while the execution of another condemned prisoner was postponed due to the possibility of a compromise in the case.
Jail authorities had received black warrants of both Ahmad Khan and Muhammad Tariq but they received the postponement order of Tariq’s hanging on July 28.
Ahmad was executed at 4:30am on Wednesday. He had murdered Shirin Khan on April 13, 2001, over a land dispute.
Jhang Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Sallahuddin Siddiqui had sentenced him to death on Dec 12, 2002. His appeals against conviction were dismissed.
Tariq, whose hanging was postponed, is from Faisalabad. He shot dead Muhammad Akram over an enmity on Oct 30, 2000.
On Tuesday, his family moved an application to the district and sessions judge of Khanewal that a compromise between the convict and legal heirs of the deceased was likely.
