Additional sessions judge gunned down in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: Unknown men on Wednesday killed an additional district and sessions judge in Rawalpindi's Sadiqabad Town area.

Three unknown gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on the vehicle of the judge as he was leaving his Judges Colony residence in Sadiqabad area of Rawalpindi. The assailants managed to escape from the scene after the attack.

The judge, who was identified as Tahir Khan Niazi, was shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds during treatment. Hospital sources said that the judge had died due to excessive bleeding.

Rescue and security personnel personnel reached the site of attack. Policemen cordoned off the area as a probe into the incident went underway.

Police officials are also going through the CCTV footage obtained from Niazi's residence.

A large number of lawyers had gathered outside the hospital after receiving the news of the judge's death.

His body was shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for a postmortem.
