Multan bypass project: PAC-I objects to delay in funds release

LAHORE: Public Accounts Committee-I Chairman Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed has taken notice of the stoppage of funds for south and north by-pass in Multan, a joint development project of the federal and provincial governments.

The PAC-I chairman decided to write a letter to the premier, Punjab chief minister and Planning and Development department chairman for the release of funds for the project.

The PAC-I meeting was held at Punjab Assembly’s committee room, which was attended by officials from finance, audit and other departments besides Jamaat-i-Islami parliamentary leader Dr Waseem Akhtar, PTI MPA Waheed Asghar Dogar and PML-N MPA Saira Iftikhar.

The meeting chaired by Mr Rasheed was told that the construction of south and north by-pass in Multan was started some four years ago with an estimated cost of Rs1.5 billion but the funds were stopped soon after the PML-N formed its government in the Centre. Since the withholding of the funds, the meeting was told that the project was delayed and its cost was continuously increasing.

Mr Rasheed said the ongoing project must be completed on a priority basis and demanded that the federal and provincial governments release the funds.

MEETING: The PTI leaders in a meeting on Wednesday lauded Imran Khan’s decisions on party matters and acknowledgement of workers’ efforts made during the last three years.

Chairing the meeting, PTI chairman’s political adviser Shoaib Siddiqui said the party workers had given great sacrifices and raised party’s image during long march, sit-in, shutter down strikes and mass public gatherings at Minar-i-Pakistan. He said the propaganda launched by some elements was condemnable.

He said party’s all leaders and workers were united for the success of PTI and Imran Khan and added that Abdul Aleem Khan’s services for the party in Lahore were laudable.

The meeting was attended by MPA Mian Aslam Iqbal, Mehr Wajid Azeem, Jamshaid Iqbal Cheema and others.
