Cop killed, another wounded in Nawabshah checkpost attack

NAWABSHAH: At least one policeman was killed and another injured when unknown armed men attacked on a police checkpost Thursday morning.

Unidentified assailants opened fire on the Abdul Haque Jamali checkpost, killing 50-year-old Abdul Qayyum Rajput and injuring 32-year-old Abdul Fatah. The victims were shifted to People's Medical College Hospital Nawabshah.

The assailants took possession of government-issued arms and ammunition from the cops, said police sources.

Senior Superintendent of Police Pervaiz Umrani said the unknown assailants were hiding in fields near the scene of the crime. A search operation has been launched by police to track down the assailants.

The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in an email claimed the attack on the Nawabshah checkpost. However, the claim could not be independently verified.
