Four men, three children saved from drowning
SUKKUR: Volunteers of a non-governmental organisation saved four men and three children whose boat had capsized in the Indus near Pannu Aqil town of Sukkur district on Saturday.
Abdul Raheem Mahar, Abdullah Mahar, Sultan Mahar and Mansoor Malik, along with three children, Naseeba, Hafiza and Shoaib, had left their houses in Dodo Mahar village — located in the kutcha area of Soomara Panhwar — by a boat to reach some safe place after the neighbourhood remained surrounded by flood-water for several days, the Falah-i-Insaniat volunteers said.
One of the survivors said that they had to arrange a boat as no relief and rescue teams could reach them for many days. He said the boat capsized due to strong currents on Saturday but fortunately the volunteers spotted them struggling for life and came to their rescue.
The survivors were accommodated in a relief camp where food, water and health facilities were available, the volunteers said.
