Two traffic constables shot dead in Gulshan

KARACHI: Two traffic police constables were shot dead on University Road in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Sunday evening, police said.

The policemen were performing their duty at the Sunday Bazaar near Safari Park, when armed motorcyclists coming from the wrong side attacked them, said Gulshan SP Abid Qaimkhani.

He added that Traffic Constables Mohammed Sher and Nizam Hussain, both in their 40s, sustained multiple bullet wounds in their head and chest and died. They were attacked in the parking area of the Sunday Bazaar.

“The double murder appeared to be linked with the new wave of targeted killing of policemen in the metropolis,” said the SP.

He said that since traffic police did not carry firearms, there was a need to provide them with weapons in view of threats being faced by the police during the ongoing operation against criminals and terrorists.

Investigators collected five spent bullet casings fired from 0.9mm pistol from the crime scene.
