‘World wants strong democracy in Pakistan’

KARACHI: American Ambassador Richard Olson has said the world wants to see a strong democracy in Pakistan where people have the freedom to continue their political activities.

The US ambassador expressed these views on Monday during his farewell call on Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan at Governor House.

During their meeting, the US envoy, who was accompanied by the American consul general in Karachi, exchanged views with the governor on matters of mutual interest and also had a detailed discussion on aid, investment and other measures being taken by the US.

Governor Ibad said Pakistan would continue to play its role in establishing peace in the region, as eliminating terrorism was the nation’s top priority. He said Pakistan was the only country that had given huge sacrifices to make the world peaceful. He said the success of Zarb-i-Azb operation resulted in improvement in law and order, boosting the confidence of people in general and investors in particular in the country.

The governor said by temperament the people of Pakistan were a peace-loving nation and the country’s political history witnessed that progressive people had always won elections.

Ambassador Olson said that the US valued the efforts of Pakistan against terrorism and the improvement in the security situation did increase the confidence of investors.
