Unbeaten Rawalpindi qualify for U-19 Super-Six round
KARACHI: Rawalpindi became the first side to qualify for the Super-Six stage of the PCB Inter-region Under-19 One-day Cricket Tournament when they beat Dera Murad Jamali by 39 runs in Sialkot on Monday to record their fourth consecutive victory in Group ‘B’.
After being restricted to a modest total of 195 at the Jinnah Stadium with Shadab Khan making a run-a-ball 69 (seven boundaries), Rawalpindi bowled their opponents for 156 in 46 overs. Paceman Awais Iqbal captured five wickets for 47.
It was the fourth straight loss for Dera Murad Jamali.
Lahore Whites took another step towards reaching the next phase of the competition when they sealed a vital nine-wicket win against Sialkot at the LCCA Ground in Lahore.
Mohammad Umar and Ghulam Murtaza returned identical figures of three for 19 as Sialkot mustered a measly score of 92 all out in 42.3 overs.
Lahore Whites then got the required runs inside 24 overs to celebrate their third success in the pool.
Multan kept alive their slim hopes of qualifying with a six-wicket triumph against Abbottabad at the Lahore Country Club Ground in Muridke.
Hyderabad dented Karachi Whites’ unblemished record in Group ‘A when they surprised the group leaders by two wickets at the Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad.
Batting first after Hyderabad won had the toss, Karachi Whites were all out for 162 in 47 overs before the home side reached 165-8 in the 41st over.
Hyderabad’s win means three teams in this pool have six points as Lahore Blues also registered a seven-wicket win over Larkana at the NBP Sports Complex.
On a bad day for Karachi outfits, their Blues side lost ground in Group ‘C’ as Fata upstaged them by seven wickets at the Bhutto Cricket Ground in Islamabad.
Karachi Blues’ second defeat in four games enabled both Islamabad and Faisalabad surpass them in the standings as both scored their third victory.
Mohammad Umair hammered 136 (122 balls, nine fours and four sixes) to help Faisalabad post a formidable 319-3 in their 50 overs against Peshawar at the National Ground in the federal capital.
Peshawar, in reply, were curtailed to 260 all out in 47.4 overs to lose by 59 runs; Hamza Khan batted gallantly to hit exactly 100 (95 balls, 15 fours and two sixes).
Islamabad whipped Azad Jammu Kashmir by 107 runs at the Diamond Club Ground to stay in touch of the Super-Six round.
The fifth and final round of league fixtures is scheduled to be played on Wednesday.
