Two new polio cases reported in Khyber Agency
PESHAWAR: Two new polio cases were been reported in Khyber Agency on Tuesday, taking the total number of registered polio cases in Pakistan this year to 32.
According to the Chief Minister's Polio Control Cell in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Abdullah son of Mohibullah, a resident of a village in the Shah Khan Khel area of Landi Kotal, was confirmed to have polio virus.
Another case was confirmed by the cell in the Mastak Tehsil, where 18-month-old Sahar Gul was diagnosed with the crippling disease.
The cell said there are now 10 registered cases of polio in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, 13 in KP, five in Balochistan and four in Sindh.
Fata along with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was declared hub of polio virus, which poses risk to children in the countries that had long declared polio-free.
Fata recorded 179 polio case and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 68 cases of the 306 countrywide cases in 2014 while they reported 65 and 11 cases respectively of the total 93 cases registered at national level in 2013. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa registered 27 and Fata 20 polio cases in the totally nationwide tally of 58 in 2012.
