SUKKUR: Journalists call off protest
SUKKUR, Oct 17: The journalists of Sukkur division have called off their protest call of Saturday as the AIG Police, Sukkur range, has withdrawn his orders about the shifting of investigation regarding the killing of journalist Ameer Bux Brohi to the SP, investigation, Khairpur, Agha Tahir.
Earlier, the journalists of Sukkur region had decided to hold a protest demonstration against the decision of the AIG Police, Sukkur, regarding shifting of the case.
Sources claimed that shifting of the investigation is seen as an attempt to save the influential people involved in the killing of Ameer Bux Brohi.
The DPO, Shikarpur, before receiving this letter, told newsmen that he had got a clue regarding the killers and the case was nearing its final stage.
Talking to newsmen, Haji Elahi Bux Brohi, father of Ameer Bux Brohi, said that he had demanded that the AIG, Police, Sukkur, appoint honest and impartial officials like A. D. Khwaja, Ghulam Nabi Memon and Abdul Khaliq Shaikh but he had transferred the investigation to Agha Tahir, who had political connections in Shikarpur; therefore, justice could not be provided.
ONE KILLED: One passenger was killed and 12 were injured when about 12 bandits attacked a police-led convoy of vehicles on the National Highway near Khabar, Ghauspur police station jurisdiction, at 2am on Friday.
The man killed in the firing was identified as, Abdul Rasheed Morio, who was a teacher.
The injured, including Syed Arshad Hussain, Sabbir Hussain Pathan, Arshad Punjabi, Shahid Qazi, Shah Nawaz, Abid Hussain and Mohammad Nawaz, were taken to a nearby hospital where condition of three persons was said to be critical.
The bandits, who also fired rockets, later deprived the passengers of cash and valuables and fled towards Jamal Dhoro.
The police chased the bandits in an Armoured Personnel Carrier which was damaged after the outlaws fired a rocket on it.
After the incident, the passengers staged a sit-in on the highway till 8am.
Jacobabad DPO Din Mohammad Baloch, who arrived at the scene, negotiated with the protestors and drivers of the vehicles and assured them that action would be taken against the negligent police officials.
The passengers ended their protest on the assurance.
Later, the DPO suspended Ghauspur SHO Lal Bux Dahar and 10 police constables.
He also recommended to the RPO, Sukkur range, to take action against Kandhkot TPO Ghulam Shabbir Shahani for negligence on his part.
