Three killed in LoC shelling

MUZAFFARABAD: Thr­ee Pakistani civilians were killed and three others wou­n­ded in Azad Jammu and Kash­mir on Thursday in what officials said fierce she­lling by Indian troops from across the Line of Control.

Casualties were reported from Nakyal sector in the Kotli district, where mortar and machinegun shelling began at about 5pm and continued till late night.

“It was intense and ferocious for two hours,” said Nazakat Hussain, the assistant commissioner of Nakyal sector.

He said Laiba Shabbir, 12, was killed in Oli village and Sufi Amin, 55, and Zahid, 19, died in Mohra Dharoti village when mortar shells hit their houses.

Another three people were injured, he added.

AJK Minister for Food Javed Iqbal Budhanvi said the area in his constituency was “reverberating with the thunder of mortars”.

“They (Indians) started from one end (Datot) in the evening and are now hitting the other end (Mohra) without any pause,” he said.
