Vehicle of MQM leader fired at in North Karachi
KARACHI: The vehicle of Muttahida Qaumi Movement lawmaker Saifuddin Khalid was fired at on Friday near Nishter Govt Girls College, 11-B, North Karachi, DawnNews reported.
Karachi-West DIG Feroze Shah tld Dawn that three motorcycle-riding armed men fired five bullets, three of which hit the MQM leaders vehicle. He added that retaliatory firing by police guards deputed with Khalid forced the attackers to flee from the scene.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, MQM leader Farooq Sattar condemned the attack on his colleague.
Saifuddin Khalid was elected as a Member of Sindh's provincial from PS-94 Karachi-VI constituency of Karachi during the 2013 General Elections. He had previously served as an MPA after being elected from the same Orangi Town constituency during the 2008 general polls.
Khalid was among three MQM MPAs who were wounded in a grenade attack in Karachi's Orangi Town area on November 21, 2014.
Previously MQM's Raza Haider and Manzar Imam had been killed in Orangi Town area of Karachi in 2010 and 2013 respectively.
MQM lawmakers had simultaneously submitted their resignations in the National Assembly, Senate and the Sindh Assembly on August 12, 2015 due to reservations over the Rangers-led operation in Karachi.
The MQM legislators had accused the law enforcement agencies of discriminatory action against MQM, forced disappearances and extra judicial killings.
