Three bandits, policeman killed in Shikarpur encounter

SHIKARPUR: Three notorious bandits, who carried a combined head money of more than Rs2 million, and a police constable were killed in an encounter at Rahmat­ullah Dahani village, 32 kilometres from here and within the jurisdiction of the Madeji police station, early on Monday morning.

Shikarpur SSP Nasir Aftab Khattak led a strong contingent of police which cordoned off the village and started a search operation after receiving a tip-off about the presence of bandits.

In the course of the search operation, the bandits hiding in a house opened fire on police.

In the ensuing exchange of fire between police and bandits, Amanullah Tunio aka Amanoo, Abdul Rasheed Rind and Murtaza Marfani were killed and one of their accomplices was seriously injured.

Police took into custody the injured bandit whose name could not be ascertained.

The encounter also claimed life of a police constable, Shamsuddin Jatoi, and caused injuries to his colleague Waseem Ahmed Mirani.

The bodies and the injured were taken to a Madeji hospital while the injured Mirani was transported to the Larkana Civil Hospital after first aid. The constable’s body was handed over to heirs after a post-mortem at the Shikarpur Civil Hospital. His Namaz-i-Janaza was offered at the Shikarpur police headquarters.

Larkana DIG Dr Sain Rakhio Mirani and Shikarpur SSP Khattak said the bandits were wanted by police in the cases of murder of Deputy Superintendent of Rangers Abdul Jabbar Abbasi, kidnapping of judges and more than 50 offences of murder and various other heinous crimes.

They said the Sindh government had announced Rs1 million each as head money of Amanoo Tunio and Abdul Rasheed Rind. Police found automatic weapons and a large quantity of ammunition in the possession of bandits.

Meanwhile, Lakhi Gate police arrested two bandits identified as Ali Hyder aka Foji Brohi and Eijaz Ahmed Brohi after an encounter with them at Marri link road in Garhi Yasin taluka late on Sunday night. A bandit Eijaz Brohi was injured in an exchange of fire and was taken to the Civil Hospital Shikarpur.

Police said the bandits were lying in wait for a prey on the link road when a police patrol noticed them and managed to arrest them after the shootout.

The Larkana DIG announced Rs1 million reward for the police team that took part in the encounter.

They bandits were wanted in different cases registered at police stations of Shikarpur, Khairpur, Larkana and Jacobabad.
