Congo fever claims another victim in Quetta

QUETTA: Congo Crimean Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) on Wednesday claimed another victim in Quetta, the third case in the span of a week in the provincial capital.

The victim was diagnosed with Congo fever and admitted in Fatima Jinnah Hospital of Quetta.

During the past week, nine patients have been admitted at Fatima Jinnah hospital.

“Out of the three patients who died, two were from Quetta while the third was from Afghanistan,” said a doctor at the hospital.

The doctor added that a total of 80 patients have been diagnosed with the fever this year, out of which 15 had died while under treatment.

The Congo Crimean Haemorrhagic Fever got its name after the disease was first reported in the 1940s in Crimea and later in Congo in the mid-1950s.
