FBR asked to facilitate taxpayers

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Saturday asked the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to constitute a committee for expediting taxpayers facilitation and broadening tax base.

The minister was chairing a meeting to review problems faced by the taxpayers in filing of returns and the role of FBR in facilitating them.

The meeting also considered the recommendations submitted in the interim report by the Tax Reforms Commission (TRC) to simplify the processes for taxpayers.

The participants also discussed framework for monitoring the ongoing tax reforms besides measures for improving the functioning and performance of the FBR.

“The reform process will be carried out in a phased manner with resolution of important issues on priority basis. International best practices will also be considered for seeking guidance and improving the indigenous system,” the minister said.

He said that it was the objective of the government to improve overall tax collection system to optimise revenues with least hassle to the taxpayers.

Special Assistant to PM on Revenue Haroon Akhtar along with TRC Chairman Masood Naqvi, TRC members Ashfaq Tola and Abid Shaban and senior officials of the ministry of finance also attended the meeting.
