Views: It’s recess time!

By Sobia Azhar

The sights and sounds during the mid-day break at school

How the minutes passed, eyes fixed on the minute hand, growling tummies and facial expressions stout. The recess bell rang. No music ever sounded so melodious and sweet and it was obvious by the smirks on our faces.

Recess time is a vivacious experience, food being only a part of it — but the real charm of it is in the juicy gossips being unfolded most graphically, and not to mention with added spices.

There is a rush to the cafeteria, loud shrieks and gales of laughter upon the craziest of jokes cracked are heard from all corners of the school.

The scrumptious lunch seems heavenly after the mind-boggling math exercise, science’s logics and monotonous history about the Mughal rise and fall — to say the least.

Students have many things to do during break. Some hang out with friends, others are seen indulging in arguments and debates with their friends over several topics. The tough ones sweat it out in the basketball court.

Then there these party-freaks, but to make the balance there are always some people whose personality can be visualised as wearing big thick glasses, innocent-looking and seriousness being their key feature, completely drowned in books.

The atmosphere of the life-filled cafeteria is also one of its kind. Mouth-watering aroma fills the air. The pizzas and burgers, the irresistibly tempting hot cakes and fries, and the chilled fizzy drinks are just marvellous. The clattering sound of dishes and wrappers, crunching of crispy spring rolls ring joyfully in the air.

All in all, this much-needed time completely refreshes our minds and bodies. To me recess time is relaxing in the company of friends, energising lunch and the never ending stories. All these make recess time so appetising — both for the body and the soul.
