TV channel’s staffer killed in hit-and-run; DSP’s son held

LAHORE: A teenage son of a police official was booked for killing an employee of a private news channel in a hit-and-run at Shadiwal Chowk, Jauhar Town, early on Tuesday.

Police said 28-year-old Rana Bilal, a non-linear editor of Channel 24, was on his way home by a motorbike when a speeding car hit him near Shadiwal Chowk. Bilal suffered critical injuries and died on the spot.

The suspect, identified as Talha, was the son of DSP Naveed Irshad. The underage driver left the car and fled.

Police took the body into custody and later handed it over to heirs after completing legal formalities.

The family took the body to their native town, Emanabad, near Gujaranwala.

Victim’s father Shahid Iqbal told newsmen that the government should take notice of the incident and ensure provision of justice to them.

Meanwhile, Punjab IGP Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera took notice of the incident and sought a report from Capital City Police Officer Amin Wains.

The CCPO said the suspect had been arrested and his vehicle seized.
