Centre refuses to provide Rangers to KP

PESHAWAR: The federal government has declined a request by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to provide 115 platoons of the Rangers for Muharram security in the province.

Sources told Dawn on Tuesday that the KP government had asked the federal government to provide 115 Rangers platoons for the Muharram security, but the centre refused to do so.

In addition to that, they said, the KP government had also asked the federal government to provide 150 Levies personnel to be deployed in Karak, Hangu, Kohat and Lakki districts.

The sources said the additional chief secretary, Fata, had also been approached for providing more levies personnel for the Tank and Dera Ismail Khan districts. They added that the Fata official was most likely to oblige the request.

The sources said currently 65 platoons of the Frontier Constabulary were with the KP government.
