Mardan approves Rs7.2 billion budget

MARDAN: The district council of Mardan approved non-developmental budget of Rs7.2 billion outlay for the financial year 2015-16 during its meeting here on Thursday.

District nazim Himayatullah Mayar presented the budget during the district council session, which was presided over by the district convener Asad Ali.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Mayar said that Rs6.9 billion was allocated to pay salaries to the employees of 14 district departments while Rs2.92 million was allocated for other expenses.

He said that an amount of Rs6.02 million was allocated for the education department, Rs462 million for health department, Rs33 million for public and works department, Rs94 million for social welfare and special education and Rs3.9 million for civil defence department.

After presenting the budget, the district nazim said that keeping aside his political affiliation, he along with the members of opposition parties in the district council would raise voice for the rights of people of Mardan district and would try his best to make Mardan a model city during his tenure.

Mr Mayar urged the PTI-led provincial government to devise clear rules of business for transfer of powers to the grassroots level so that problems of people could be solved on priority basis.

The members of opposition benches including Eng Adil Nawaz Khan, Sher Bahadar Khan and Advocate Farukhser said on the occasion that provincial government approved billions of rupees for education sector but it was needed to improve performance of the department.

They said that the district nazim should take notice of shortage of medicines in hospitals of the district and take up the issue with the provincial government so that the issue could be resolved.
