550-year-old 9th Muharram procession in Sukkur

SUKKUR: Mourning processions were taken out in many Sindh towns on Friday which passed through their traditional routes and terminated at the appointed places peacefully amid tight security.

In Sukkur, the 550-year-old ‘Shama Gul’ procession was taken out at midnight of Thursday-Friday in Rohri town near here in which a large number of mourners from different parts of the country participated under the watch of 5,000 security personnel.

The administration had installed walkthrough gates at Mehfil Shah-i-Karbala Iraq Imambargah where the majlis was held to scan mourners before letting them enter. The Sukkur SSP and Rangers personnel were monitoring the mourning procession and majlis through helicopters and CCTV cameras.
