UN assembly votes for end to Cuba embargo
UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations member states overwhelmingly condemned the decades-long Cuban embargo in a mostly symbolic vote on Tuesday, marking the first vote since the US shift in policy towards Cuba.
The vote was 191-2. Only the United States and Israel voted in favour of keeping the embargo.
Cuba introduced a resolution at the General Assembly criticising the embargo and demanding end to the 23-year-old embargo.
The United States has lost each vote by increasingly overwhelming and embarrassing margins. Last year’s tally was 191-2 in favour of Cuba with only Israel siding with the US.
