PML-N emerges leader in Punjab, PPP ahead in Sindh

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is gearing up for victory in Punjab with a total of 1,195 seats while in Sindh, while Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is reportedly ahead with a firm grip on 767 seats, according to the unofficial results of first phase of the local government polls.

According to the unofficial statistics, the independent candidates have clinched 1,239 seats followed by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) which managed to grab only 285 seats.

The local government elections were held on 2,696 seats in Punjab and 1,072 seats in Sindh.

Out of the those seats, PML-N is so far ahead on 1,195 seats in Punjab while the position of PPP is looking strong on 767 seats in Sindh.

The PTI is ahead on 285 seats followed by PPP with 47, PML-Q with 44, Jamat-i-Islami and Pakistan Awami Tehrik with two seats each, while other political parties could not bag any votes in the 12 polling districts of Punjab.

PML-N candidates reportedly swept the LG polls in Lahore district by gaining lead on 230 seats out of the 274 union councils, while PTI could only manage 12 seats and the rest were won by the independent candidates.

In Bahawalnagar district, PML-N candidates have won 54 seats, PTI won 16 seats while the independents have bagged 175 seats.

PML-N won 179 seats, PTI 45 seats while 235 seats have been won by the independent candidates in Faisalabad.

In Bhakkar district, PML-N got 47 seats, PTI won only 2 and the independents bagged 74 seats.

In Kasur, PML-N secured 140 seats with independent candidates managing 85 seats. PTI won 58 seats in the district.

PML-N won 136 seats, independent candidates grabbed 96 seats while PTI got 24 seats in Okara district.

In Pakpattan and Chakwal districts, PML-N won 60 and 58 seats respectively, while independent candidates grabbed 55 and 62 seats and PTI secured 21 and 16 seats respectively.

In Vehari district, PML-N candidates grabbed 62, PTI bagged 25 while the independents won 86 seats.

In Gujrat district, PML-N candidates bagged 92 seats while PTI secured 38 seats and independent candidates grabbed 49 seats.

The PML-N won 75 seats in Lodhran district, while the independents and PTI secured 50 and 16 seats respectively.

In Nankana Sahib, independent candidates won 65 seats while the PML-N candidates secured 71 seats and PTI secured 20 seats.

In Sindh, the unofficial results of 1,000 seats out of the total 1,070 seats have been announced so far, leaving PPP in a strong position.

The PPP managed to bag 720 seats followed by independent candidates with 174 seats, PML-F 74, PTI 5, JUI-F 12 and PML-N and MQM with 3 seats each.
