Shayan was a religious boy and hoped to inspire his friends and family to be regular with their prayers. His father says Shayan would tell his mother not arrange dinner before the night prayer as his father would get lazy and not offer his prayers in the mosque.

He was a good cricket player, but his real passion was astronomy.
