Polio case detected in Quetta

QUETTA: Polio virus was detected in a two-year-old boy in Quetta’s Eastern Bypass area on Thursday, said Coordinator of Emergency Operation Centre Balochistan, Dr Syed Saifur Rehman.

With the new case, the number of polio cases reported this year from Quetta reached five and seven in the province. The fresh polio victim was identified as Rab Nawaz Nurzai, son of Alam Khan Nurzai, a resident of Nurzai Colony in Eastern Bypass area on the outskirts of Quetta. The child was not vaccinated against the disease because of his father’s refusal, official sources said, adding that he used to hide the boy whenever vaccinators visited their house.
