SWABI: An Afghan woman and her two daughters were killed while her sister was injured when roof of a mud house caved in at Gandaf refugee camp here on Monday.

Police said that the incident occurred at Gandaf refugee camp where about 24,000 Afghan refugees had been living since 1980. They said that the house of Qazi Mohammad collapsed at 2am when the inmates were asleep.

The neighbours rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies of Zarmeena, wife of Iqbal Khan, and her two daughters Gul Meena and Husna Khan. Zarmeena along with her two daughters had come to the house of her father Qazi Mohammad for a night when the incident occurred.

Qazi Mohammad and his wife Niaz Begum remained unhurt while their second daughter Balqees got injures.

TENT OFFICES: The representatives of four union councils of Tordher set up their offices in tents at the main bus stop to protest the failure of provincial government to provide them with building for offices.

The protesting local government representatives told journalists that that they wanted establishment of their offices so that people could approach them easily.

They said that they didn’t want to annoy their voters as it would mark end of their political career if they failed to deliver according to the expectations of people.

They said that despite passing of near seven months they did not have their offices while district and tehsil nazims were enjoying numerous facilities for the last six months.

They said that only namizs should not dominate and utilise the facilities of local government. “As compared with district and tehsil nazims, majority of the people approached us, saying that we should either deliver or tender resignation,” said Intizar Khan, chairman of Tordher-1 union council.

He said that their protest camp would continue on Tuesday and if the authorities concerned failed to accept their demand then their next camp would be set up outside the office of tehsil Chota Lahor nazim.
