Three held for firing on Daska judge
GUJRANWALA: The Crime Investigation Agency police arrested on Saturday three alleged hired assassins involved in firing at the Daska additional district and sessions judge and handed them over to the police.
Judge Syed Iftikhar Husain was shot at and injured by unidentified motorcyclists a fortnight ago in Daska.
City SP Tahir Maqsood Cheena said suspects were identified as Imran, Kashif and Iftikhar who said they were hired assassins.
KILLED: Two motorcyclists were killed in a head-on collision between a wagon and their motorcycle in Naushera Virkan on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Azam and Baber, of village Nawan Pind.
Police arrested wagon driver Mazhar.
DEMO: Pakistan Sunni Tehreek activists demonstrated against the Indian prime minister’s arrival in Lahore on Friday.
They gathered outside Sheranwala Bagh and later paraded on GT Road under the leadership of their city president Iftikhar Chishti.
Leaders condemned the development, saying Modi was the enemy of Muslims.
The residents of Alipur Chowk protested on Saturday at the death of a minor boy in a manhole. Ali Haider (4) fell into the manhole in front of his house. The residents retrieved him from the manhole and shifted him to hospital where he died. The death sparked anger among the people who demanded that all manholes be covered immediately.
Assistant Commissioner Mian Attiqur Rehman told Dawn the child had fallen into the water tank of a nearby cold storage where he had gone to pick a ball.
INJURED: Four motorcyclists suffered cuts on their faces because of flying stray strings.
The injured identified as Moazam, Shehzad, Shehbaz Ahmad and Naurin were admitted to the Gujranwala District Headquarters hospital.
City Police Officer Waqas Nazir took notice of the incident and ordered crackdown on the manufacturers and dealers of kites and strings. Kotwali police raided Beriwala Chowk and unearthed a factory of chemical coated string.
Factory owner Babar Hasan, Navid and Muhammad Iqbal were arrested in the raid.
