Junior squash players off to UK
ISLAMABAD: A five-member junior team left for the UK on Tuesday to feature in the British Junior Squash Championship scheduled to be held from Jan 2-6, 2016 in Sheffield.
“US Junior Open winner Israr Ahmed will participate in the U-19 age category while Mehran Javed, Aun Abbas, Mansoor Zaman and Abdul Malik will take part in the U-17 category,” Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) secretary Amir Nawaz said.
He said the players had departed from Karachi Airport having participated in the ninth DG Rangers (Sindh) Squash Championship.
The PSF secretary said that the federation had pinned high hopes on Israr particularly after his superb performance in the recently-held US Junior Open Squash Championship which he said was the largest junior squash tournament in the world and was considered the third most prestigious junior open after the World Junior and the British Junior Open championships.
It deserves a mention that Israr won the US Junior Open title after defeating Rod Tucker 11-9, 11-8, 7-11, 11-8.
