‘Notorious dacoit’ killed in Thatta police encounter

THATTA: A suspected robber was killed and his three accomplices were arrested in a police encounter in the early hours of Saturday.

Gharo police said that Muhammad Nawaz alias Mendhro Khaskheli, a notorious dacoit allegedly involved in several heinous crimes in Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Thatta and Badin districts, was killed and his three accomplices were wounded and arrested in the encounter that took place on Babbra Road.

Thatta SSP Fida Hussain Mastoi told reporters that the deceased robber was involved in more than 40 cases of murder, kidnapping for ransom and robberies.

A resident of Jhando Mari in Tando Allahyar district, Mendhro Khaskheli and his gang had also killed three police constables and two tribesmen of the Panhwer tribe in the Chambar area in Mirpurkhas district.

The police arrested his three accomplices on Jhimpir link road near Jherruck on the National Highway.

The wounded, identified as Shah Nawaz Khaskheli, Nadeem Chandio and Mukhtiar Khaskheli, were shifted to the Makli hospital.

An AK-47 assault rifle, TT pistols and other weapons were seized from them.

The body of the deceased suspect was moved to the Rural Health Centre, Gharo, for medico-legal formalities.
