Haris wins U-18 snooker crown

LAHORE: Punjab’s Haris Tahir became the inaugural champion of the National Under-18 Snooker Championship when he overcame Muzammil Khan of Sindh in an eight-frame final here on Monday.

He won 51-45, 76-06, 43-76, 72-05, 13-43, 37-71, 54-19, 58-20, faltering in patches but was largely in control of the match.

Racing into a 3-1 lead, Haris faltered as Muzammil levelled the final but won the next two frames to take the title as well as a prize purse of Rs60,000.

He also earned a Rs5000 prize for the highest tournament break while Muzammil took home Rs35,000 as runner-up.

The duo, along with semi-finalists Willam Laffourge and Sameer-ul-Hassan, also bagged Rs15,000 with all eight quarter-finalists received Rs5000 each.

Semi-finals: Haris bt Willam Laffourge (Islamabad) 4-2 (54-49, 78-28, 37-66, 90-05, 09-62, 62-15); Muzammil bt Sameer-ul-Hassan (Sindh) 4-3 (64-39, 28-112, 64-26, 68-08, 18-70, 50-60, 62-41).

Quarter-finals: Haris bt Waqas Shafiq (Punjab) 4-0 (50-40, 77-15, 79-15, 54-25); Muzamil bt Umar Khan (Punjab) 4-2 (70-28, 30-44, 79-35, 71-30, 31-57, 54-32); Laffourge bt Umar Farooq (Punjab) 4-3 (26-53, 60-61, 50-40, 73-28, 64-33, 41-50, 41-24); Sameer bt Zubair Shamsi (Sindh) 4-2 (26-42, 60-38, 62-19, 45-56, 61-60, 61-57).
