Quetta Gladiators sign Perera, Dernbach
KARACHI: The Quetta Gladiators have signed up Sri Lankan star all-rounder Thishara Perera and England fast-bowler Jade Dernbach in place of West Indies’ Jason Holder, who was forced to miss Pakistan Super league (PSL) after his NOC request was rejected by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).
As far as the double signings are concerned, it must be clarified that both Perera and Dernbach have been signed on partial availability. Perera would be with the side for initial stage of the PSL but will leave once the
series between India and Sri Lanka begins in mid February. Dernbach will then walk in to beef up the Gladiators.
Head coach Moin Khan said he is delighted with the double signings and added that both are capable of winning matches on their day. “It is a smart move from Quetta Gladiators to bring in two quality players in place of Holder and this move has only helped in making our team stronger,” Moin said.
“Both are match-winners in their own right when it’s their day and hopefully they would contribute in the team’s success. I welcome them into the side and looking forward to work with them.”
The 26-year-old Perera is an important member of Sri Lankan ODI and T20I sides and has played six Tests, 110 one-dayers and 42 T20Is for his country. On the other hand, Dernbach has played 24 ODIs and 34 T20Is for England.
