Gujrat gymkhana to get modern swimming pool

GUJRAT: A state-of-the-art swimming pool will be established here under a scheme the Punjab government initiated for Gujranwala division that will be executed at the Gujrat Gymkhana Club.

The provincial government allocated Rs103 million for the project whose construction was likely to start within a month. However its completion could take more than a year due to the provision of funds in installments.

This was revealed by District Coordination Officer (DCO) Liaquat Ali Chattha at the maiden Annual General Meeting of the club in the lawns of its under-construction building on Friday.

He said the Punjab government had planned to establish a modern swimming pool in Gujranwala region and he had managed to obtain the project for Gujrat, adding the project was now in the tendering process with the department concerned.

The DCO, also the president of the club, announced elections for the club’s secretary and four members of the board of governors scheduled to be held on Feb 16.

The participants were also told the club’s building would be completed by Jan 31 and so far Rs21 million had been spent on the project. The club would comprise a gym, snooker hall, squash court, cards room, tea room, common room and a dining hall besides a banquet hall with a capacity of 500 people. Guest rooms would also be constructed later after which the establishment would be affiliated with other leading clubs of the country.

Earlier, Executive District Officer (Finance and Planning) Chaudhry Asghar, also the treasurer of the club, presented details of its income and expenditures in the previous year.
