Over 700 to contest for reserved seats in Attock
TAXILA: Some 784 candidates are campaigning for the different reserved seats in the District Council, Municipal Committee and union councils (UC) in the Attock district.
According to local election commission officials, 60 candidates are contesting for the 28 seats in the District Council. The nomination papers of 8 candidates were rejected for different reasons.
For the seats reserved in the District Council, 26 are running for women’s seats, 14 for peasant’s seats, 6 for non-Muslim’s seats, 9 for technocrat’s seats and five for youth’s seats.
For the different reserved seats in 71 UCs of the district, 397 candidates will be contesting the indirect elections while the nomination papers of 26 aspiring candidates were rejected.
For the six municipal committees in the district, 175 candidates are running for women’s seats, 112 for peasants’ seats, 93 for youth seats and 17 for the seats reserved for non-Muslim’s. The nominations of six people were rejected.
According to the statistics issued by the local election commission officials, 23 candidates are running in the municipal committee Attock, 11 in the municipal committee Hazro, 15 in Hassabadal, 17 in Fatehjang, 12 in Pindigheb, and 13 candidates are in the run in the municipal committee of Jand.
Election symbols to almost all candidates have been allotted.
