Removal of businessmen names from ECL sought

LAHORE, Nov 7: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has sent a letter to Interior Minister Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat, seeking removal of names from the exit control list (ECL) of those businessmen who have cleared or rescheduled their liabilities of bank loans.

In his letter to the minister, FPCCI standing committee on sick units chairman Muhammad Usman has pointed out to him that the ECL is not being updated periodically.

“There are many industrialists and businessmen whose names have so far not been removed from the list in spite of the fact that they have cleared or rescheduled their bank liabilities,” the letter said. “There are many cases which have been resolved by the committee formed by the central bank to resolve the disputes and their CIB is clear and communicated to the ministry of finance. Yet their names are still appearing on the ECL.”

The letter says the present state of affairs is in the knowledge of the interior secretary. “But it is very disturbing for the affected individuals that their names are still on the list. Hence, we call upon you (the minister) to intervene and direct the authorities concerned to update the list, removing names of those businessmen whose bank loan cases have been settled.”
