Pemra member resigns over differences with chief

ISLAMABAD: Ashraf Gujjar, a member of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) from Islamabad, has resigned because of differences with the authority’s chairman.

In his resignation letter addressed to the president, Mr Gujjar said, “In the given circumstances I find that I am unable to serve the institution or the nation in my capacity as Pemra member. I shall very soon be submitting the reasons and reservations behind my resignation to the prime minister.”

The resignation, dated Jan 26, has been forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat and was also circulated among journalists on Wednesday.

Talking to Dawn, Mr Gujjar said that Pakistan was facing serious propaganda assaults from India through its Direct-To-Home (DTH) satellite television, but Pemra had failed to do anything to counter this.
