The weekly weird

Selfie lands a woman in a well

A holidaymaker paid a heavy price for taking a selfie — she fell 30ft down a well as she tried to take a selfie at a tourist spot in India. The woman, from Austria, was touring the Junagadh Fort in Gujarat when this happened.

Locals heard her screams and rushed to the edge of the well to help her but there wasn’t any rope around to rescue her.

So they made a long rope from their shirts and lowered it down the well.

The woman grabbed it and was pulled to safety, and she luckily escaped with just minor injuries.

Siberian tiger chased by a goat!

Probably for the first time, a tiger, that too a Siberian one, got chased by a goat that it was supposed to catch and eat. At the Primorsky Safari Park, in Russia’s far south-eastern corner, the park keepers released a goat into the tiger’s enclosure as one of its twice-weekly meals of live animals, expecting Amur, the tiger, to attack and devour the goat in no time.

But they were in for a surprise when the goat chased Amur from its sleeping place and bedded down on it instead! Amur has been banished to sleeping on the shelter’s roof and the goat has since been named Timur, after a courageous kid from a popular Communist-era children’s book.

Despite the unusual sleeping arrangements, there does not appear to be any animosity between the unlikely pair. Timur has also taken to following Amur around everywhere.

Siberian tigers are an endangered species but their numbers have stabilised in recent years to around 500, mainly due to the conservation efforts. Not all Siberian tigers are goat-friendly, however. Last year, two young tigers released into the wild crossed into China and wrought havoc among the local livestock, killing dozens goats and chickens before going back to Russia.
