NAB summons former envoy to Britain to explain ‘misuse’ of funds

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau on Wednesday summoned former Pakistan high commissioner to Britain, Wajid Shamsul Hasan, to explain irregularities worth hundreds of thousands of pounds in the high commission’s accounts, officials said.

In a notification issued to Hasan, he has been instructed to appear before the investigating officer on Mar 15 and answer specific questions on allegations of ‘embezzlement’.

The former envoy has been sent a set of questions by the accountability watchdog, which is seeking explanations from him on expenditures he authorised during his term as the high commissioner.

The questions are related to the former high commissioner’s expenditure on air tickets, telephone calls, withdrawal of cash from the high commission’s account and other miscellaneous expenses.
