All three Pakistan cueists lose on second day of Asian U-21 snooker

KARACHI: Pakistan had a dismal run in the 17th Asian Under-21 snooker championship at Colombo on Thursday as none of the three competing cueists could win their second day’s match.

According to results available here, Chinese Yuan Sijun chalked up a fine century break of 113 in the fifth frame while routing Haris Tahir 4-2. He fought back from 2-4 down to register 53-68, 51-65, 82-0, 77-46, 113-0, 59-38 victory.

Hong Kong’s Ka Wai Cheung carved out a straight win over Abdul Raheem which includes a solid break of 78 in the third frame. He was home 94-25, 101-25, 121-13, 116-0. This was Raheem’s first defeat in two games.

Mohammad Saqib’s elegant break of 119 in the second frame could not save him from suffering 2-4 defeat at the hands of Indian Asutosh Padhy.

Saqib, who twice came from behind to held his opponent to two-all, succumbed to pressure and lost the battle. The Indian cueist won the duel 75-34, 0-120, 89-11, 47-78, 67-1, 83-31.

Earlier, Saqib, who had a losing start, managed to beat Iran’s Siyavosh Mozayani in the best of seven frames 4-3 in his second match on Wednesday evening.

Saqib recovered from 2-3 down to post 61-51, 63-50, 7-77, 28-57, 16-71, 65-21, 74-34 win.

First day’s remaining result:

Mohammad Saqib bt Siyavosh Mozayani (Iran) 4-3 (61-51, 63-50, 7-77, 28-57, 16-71, 65-21, 74-34).
