Sanitary workers protest non-payment of salaries

OKARA: Sanitary workers of the Hujrah Shah Muqeem Municipal Committee (MC) have been on a strike for three days over non-payment of salaries for two months.

Protesters staged a sit-in in the ground within the MC premises where they addressed and raised slogans against the committee and administration for depriving them of their income. Around 70 sanitary workers have been protesting for three days on the committee premises till closure of offices.

Asif Masih and Vikram have been leading protesters. They complained they have been facing severe financial issues and could not even purchase daily-use items.

MC Chief Officer Gulzar Ahmad said the committee had issued half salary to each sanitary worker on Friday. The remaining amount would be paid within next few days, he added.

But the workers refused to end their strike, saying they did not trust the management and wanted full salaries.
