I never disrespected Waqar, says Shaharyar

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan has dispelled the impression given by Waqar Younis that he wasn’t given due respect when he went to lodge a protest against the leaking of the head coach’s report on the World Twenty20 debacle to a section of the media.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Waqar lashed out that neither Shaharyar nor PCB chairman executive committee Najam Sethi entertained him as he went to the PCB headquarters.

Shaharyar, however, told Dawn that he couldn’t meet Waqar because he was meeting the team management of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) side Lahore Qalandars.

“I told Waqar that since the meeting was going to last for some time, it would be better to meet on Thursday,” Shaharyar said.

“Waqar, however, was adamant and called me on the phone to lodge his protest. I told him that I will set up an inquiry committee to ascertain the reasons for the leakage of the report while apologising too.”

The PCB chief admitted that Waqar handed over the report to him which he had passed on to Sethi and PCB chief operating officer Subhan Ahmad, but he could “not say for sure from where the report was leaked”.
