Hamza makes his mark in pro-circuit

KARACHI: After pulling off the biggest upset of his career by getting the better of celebrated Indian Pankaj Advani to clinch the Asian snooker title at Kuala Lumpur last year, promising Hamza Akbar made his mark in the pro-circuit when he sent much superior cueist Jamie Jones of the Wales packing by 10-5 frames to sneak into the second round of the Betferd World Championship qualifier the other day.

According to results made available here, Hamza, who is ranked 122 in the pro-circuit, notched up a convincing 10-5 victory over the 33rd ranked Jones the scores being 45-67, 66-10, 64-22, 59-52, 48-15, 63-11, 42-68, 70-14, 71-53, 60-24, 0-125, 5-87, 63-7, 32-77, 55-29.

Hamza, who is also the two-time former national champion, is slated to meet England’s Ian Burns in the second round match on Sunday.
