RAWALPINDI: ‘Dist govts to function smoothly now’

RAWALPINDI, Dec 29: The district governments are expected to function smoothly from now onwards, all irritants in the working of these governments having been removed, Punjab Governor Lt-Gen (Rtd) Khalid Maqbool has said.

He was talking to district Nazim Raja Tariq Kiani who had called on him here on Saturday.

The governor said the government planned to strengthen the office of the district Nazim so that the system could be made more effective for resolving problems of the common man locally.

He said it had been decided in principle that inputs from district Nazims would be accorded priority in devising development policies in future.

He said the Nullah Leh project, to be launched some time next month, was a gift for the city and assured the Nazim that the provincial government would fulfil all its obligations in this regard.

Mr Kiani apprised the governor of various issues pertaining to the district.
