Four killed, 17 injured in Dir, Swabi accidents

UPPER DIR/SWABI: Two members of a family were killed and 14 others sustained injuries when a vehicle plunged into a deep ravine in Guryal, a mountainous area of Sheringal, in Upper Dir on Thursday.

Police said that the vehicle carrying a family to attend a wedding procession in Duro area fell down into a ravine after the driver lost control over the wheel. A woman identified as Nasrin and 12-year-old Saqib were killed while 14 people received injuries in the accident.

The injured were identified as Husna, Said Rehman, Asma, Asghar, Ziaullah, Mir Alam, Tauhid Bibi, Suleman, Sherin Zada, Wajiha, Awais, Mursalin, Zenab and Shan Baha.

The injured were shifted to a rural health centre in Sheringal. Some of the critically injured persons were shifted to district headquarters hospital in Dir.

In Swabi, two people were killed and three others injured when a heavy truck and an auto-rickshaw collided on Thursday, police said.

The accident occurred in the limits of Zaida police station. They said that the truck, going to Topi, collided with an auto-rickshaw, coming from the opposite direction on Topi-Zaidai Road near the office of Kalabat union council.

As a result two passengers of the auto-rickshaw identified as Hazrat Gul and Sarwar Khan were killed on the spot and three people received injuries. Hazrat Gul belonged to Maneri Payyan and Sarwar Khan was a resident of Kala village.

The injured were taken to Bacha Khan Medical Complex. The doctors said that one of them was in serious condition and he might be referred to Peshawar.

The driver of the truck managed to escape after the incident. Police said they seized the vehicle and search was on for the driver.
